The Global Acetate
Manufacturers Association (GAMA) has been founded in Brussels on
January 27, 2000.
Established in 2000 and based in New York, USA the Global Acetate Manufacturers
Association (GAMA) is the professional organization of the major
producers of cellulose acetate. Its members represent over 80 % of
global capacity. The dramatic changes in the global political and
economical environment during the nineties put the commercial future
of some product lines in jeopardy, which prompted the formation of
the Global Acetate Manufacturers Association.
GAMA’s objective is to enhance the long-term viability of
cellulose acetate and its derivative products worldwide. The Goals
of the Association are to advance, develop and promote its products
and to jointly address the challenges the industry faces.
These challenges include globalization of the business, interfiber
substitution, declining demand and consolidation of the customer
base. Not in the least, escalating costs due to government health
and environmental regulations.
GAMA’s activities are centered on
• Compiling information on economic, political and industry
trends, as well as on new standards, legislation and new regulations
• Undertaking industry projects (e.g. promoting the image of
cellulose acetate filament in the global market)
• Addressing new competitive challenges in the markets for
its products including acetate and triacetate flake as the raw material,
the yarns and filter tow
The purpose of the website is to give you an overview and an insight
into the far-reaching and exciting world of cellulose acetate filament
yarns as a fashion fibre.
Furthermore it will provide you with the necessary background information
on acetate, the major end users and the technical procedures.
Enjoy your visit to the acetate world!
