Manufacture of Cellulose Acetate Yarn
Eco-Friendly Manufacturing of Acetate Yarn
Acetate yarn is a man-made textile yarn product produced by GAMA members in Spain, South Korea, Japan and the USA. The term "man-made" is somewhat misleading because acetate's primary raw material is a natural product, wood pulp. Wood pulp is produced by paper mills who carefully harvest their trees from well managed, renewable forests. This process makes acetate a natural and environmental friendly product.
Additonally, the yarn production process itself is environmentally clean. All acetate yarn manufacturers continuously aim to meet the present environmental regulations.
Other textile yarns such as polyester and nylon are also "man-made." However, the big difference with acetate is that the primary raw materials used to make these yarns are derived from crude oil , a non-recoverable resource.
The use of acetate yarns has even more benefits that are based on the natural source of the product. Research by the Institute of Environment Research, at Kansas State University, USA has shown that people consider coats lined with acetate considerably more comfortable than duplicate coats with polyester linings. People perceived acetate linings moreover, as lighter in weight and having a better moisture transfer in comparison with polyester linings. The natural source of acetate ensures that the fabric is hypoallergenic, but it also feels less sticky, less damp and does not have a static cling when compared to duplicate coats lined with polyester. This difference is something that a retail customer "feel" in the garment. And while they may not know why they like the garment lined with acetate, they can reject the garment lined with polyester. Garments lined with acetate have this advantage, better comfort to the end use wearer. |
