By occasion of the China International Man-made fibres Conference in Shanghai, PR China, Bruno Alves (General Manager of GAMA) delivered a presentation on the properties and production process of acetate filament.

The conference was coorganised by the China Chemical Fibres Association and the China National Textile Industry Council, and sponsored by corporations like SINOPEC Corp and PetroChina. This presentation comes as a result of the close cooperation that GAMA has developed with the Chinese association in the past year.

GAMA's presentation described the positive aspects of cellulose acetate production as an environmentally friendly process, and presented for the first time in public the results of a number of comparative studies between acetate filament and other fibres. These comparative studies indicate that acetate yarn is perceived as more comfortable than other fibres like polyester.

The audience was composed of Chinese corporations, governmental authorities and international analysts of the textile industry, who have reacted to the presentation with great enthusiasm and highlighted the reduced knowledge that the Chinese fabric manufacturing sector has of acetate yarn, its properties and its production process. According to the chairman of the panel Mr David Hewitt (Dupont), - "this was a great opportunity to remind the Chinese textile industry and the international fabric manufacturing sector in general that there are other yarns (like cellulose acetate) with high added-value properties that are sometimes overlooked."

According to Alves, it was important for GAMA to promote the visibility of acetate yarn in China at a time when the Chinese garment and fabric manufacturing industry is striving to gain new higher-quality markets. The properties of acetate yarn go towards helping the Chinese industry entering this superior range of garments. It has also been a very enriching experience to meet and discuss the future prospects of the Chinese and worldwide textile markets with a number of national authorities, renowned analysts and companies.
